Chicago Bears starting quarterback Caleb Williams was carted off the field during the fourth quarter against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday after suffering an apparent right lower leg injury. The former number one overall draft pick went down awkwardly on a non-contact scramble, leaving Soldier Field in stunned silence.
The injury occurred midway through the fourth quarter with the Bears driving inside Vikings territory. Williams rolled out to his left to escape defensive pressure, attempting to cut back against the turf before collapsing without any physical contact from incoming defenders.
The Moment Caleb Williams Went Down
Broadcast cameras captured the 24-year-old quarterback immediately clutching his right lower leg and ankle area, writhing in visible distress on the Soldier Field grass.
Medical personnel rushed to the field immediately as players from both the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings took a knee around the fallen quarterback. Williams attempted to put weight on his right leg while being helped up, but was unable to walk under his own power.

Emotional Scenes As Williams Carted To Locker Room
Moments after reaching the sideline medical tent, team trainers signalled for the motorised cart.
Williams was loaded onto the vehicle with a white towel completely draped over his face to conceal his emotions. Despite the devastating turn of events, the young signal caller raised his right arm into a fist to acknowledge the standing ovation from the Chicago home crowd as he disappeared down the tunnel for X-rays and evaluation.
Tyson Bagent Takes Over Under CeCentre
With Williams officially ruled out of the contest, backup quarterback Tyson Bagent entered the game on second and goal. Bagent managed the remaining offensive snaps, leading to a Cairo Santos field goal.
Bagent, who started four games for Chicago during the 2023 season, is now slated to take over starting duties if Williams faces an extended absence.
Early Medical Concerns Point To Lower Leg Injury
While head coach Matt Eberflus and the Bears medical staff have not yet confirmed the full diagnosis, sports medicine analysts and former NFL team doctors immediately raised concern over a possible Achilles tendon injury based on the non-contact deceleration mechanism visible on video replays.
Williams is scheduled for an urgent MRI on Monday morning to determine the true extent of the damage to his right leg.
